Confronting Systemic Racism

Individuals, organizations, and communities are confronting our country’s history of institutional and systemic racism, examining the ways in which racism is perpetuated by policies, practices, and cultural norms, and demanding justice and enduring change. We, at Vertical Harvest, are thinking critically about our position within a racist system. We are firmly committed to continually re-evaluating our internal policies and procedures through a lens of inclusion and equity, as well as diversity, and to taking concrete action. We also are committed to furthering our own education on the ways systemic racism has fundamentally shaped and continues to shape food systems in the United States; to creating meaningful community partnerships; and to taking action to support local food justice.

Raise Consciousness & Shift Policies

We are guided by the question: how can Vertical Harvest use its platform to raise consciousness and shift policies that are contributing to food and job insecurity and inequity in our community and across the nation? And more, how can we utilize technology and innovation, core tenants of Vertical Harvest, to foster healthy, resilient communities?

We recognize that our commitment to impact requires an ongoing need for engagement, reflection, and adaptation as we dive deeper into the needs and perspectives of the diverse populations that make up communities. We are dedicated to the process of listening, learning, growing, and cultivating true changemakers in our communities.
