April 28 | World Day for Safety and Health at Work
At Vertical Harvest, we believe that how we grow matters just as much as what we grow. On this World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we`re proud to spotlight the care, commitment, and community that power our farms every single day. π±
Our farm is more than a workplaceβitβs a place of purpose.
As a company grounded in equity and inclusion, we design our systems with the whole person in mind. From adjustable workspaces and customized training to team huddles that center communication and mental well-being, we foster an environment where everyoneβof all abilitiesβcan thrive.
Safety and health arenβt just checkboxesβtheyβre core to our model of sustainable growth.
We view safety as shared responsibility and mutual respectβensuring that each person working at our farms has the tools, knowledge, and support they need to do their job with confidence and care. Because when we invest in people, we grow stronger communities and more resilient food systems.
Inclusive hiring is just the beginning.
Weβre building new systems from the ground upβwhere health, safety, and equity go hand in hand. Because the future of farming should be as nourishing for people as it is for the planet.
π Today and every day, we recognize the importance of protecting and empowering our workforceβespecially those too often left out of the labor conversation.

"For me and the team, Vertical Harvest was an effort to ask, `Could a farm become a critical piece of civic infrastructure? Could its scale solve some of the problems we see in our communitiesβnot only providing healthy, nutritious food but also creating a climate-resilient response?`"
In a recent interview with CEAg Talks, Vertical Harvest CEO Nona Yehia (@verticalnona) how we`re bringing sustainable agriculture and inclusive employment opportunities to the Pine Tree State with Vertical Harvest Maine. Watch Nona`s full interview to learn more: π Link in bio!

WOW. What a week. π±π
Over five incredible days, we held 70 interviews with amazing, passionate job seekers β with and without disabilities β who are excited about the chance to grow food and community here at Vertical Harvest Maine. π₯¬β¨
Some folks have been following our journey for years, and getting to meet them face-to-face was a powerful reminder of why we do this work.
Caroline (@carolinecroftestay) and Lindsay are feeling that good kind of exhaustion β the kind that comes from connecting with people who want to help build something meaningful. π
Hiring decisions and next steps will be shared in early May, and weβre so grateful to everyone who showed up, shared their stories, and brought their energy to the farm. π
Thank you again to Hospitality Maine (@hospitalitymaine) for having us and @enidarvelo for these sweet shots! πΈ

π£ Happy ASL Day from Vertical Harvest! π€π±
Today weβre shining a spotlight on American Sign Language (ASL) β not just a powerful tool for communication, but also a bridge that connects communities in so many beautiful ways.
Our very own Amanda MacFarlane (@celticcowgirl252) is sharing some ASL fun facts to celebrate:
π ASL isnβt just for people who are deaf or hard of hearing β itβs also a great way to communicate with infants! Amanda started signing with her daughter at just 3 months old.
π§ ASL is also commonly used by people diagnosed with nonverbal Autism, helping open up new ways of expression and connection.
π ASL is not a universal language! Different countries have their own sign languages and even dialects within them. For instance, ASL uses one hand for fingerspelling, while British Sign Language uses two!
At Vertical Harvest, we believe in communication that grows connection β in every form it takes. π
